The Symbol of Piešťany
Also known as the Glass Bridge, it is the longest covered bridge in Slovakia. It connects the health spa island with the town centre. It was built at the beginning of the 1930s at the behest of Ludwig Winter, the tenant of the health spa. After the German army had destroyed the bridge in 1945 it was reconstructed in 1956.
Also known as the Glass Bridge, it is the longest covered bridge in Slovakia. It connects the Health Spa Island with the town centre. It was built at the beginning of the 1930s at the behest of L’udovit Winter, the tenant of the health spa. After the German army had destroyed the bridge in 1945, it was reconstructed in 1956.
At one end of the bridge stands the statue of the Crutch Breaker. The bronze casting symbolises the power of the healing water. The statue is the town’s most famous landmark, which is even found in the town’s coat of arms. On the island side, the bridge has an inscription in Latin, which reads “Surge et ambula – get up and walk”, a Biblical reference to the healing of the sick
