surrounding castles, fortresses, and caves.

This tranquil resort town in southwestern Slovakia is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and is the perfect home base for exploring the surrounding areas. Before setting off into the countryside, however, take in Smrdáky itself. There’s a lot to discover here too.

Spa park with deciduous and conifer trees, many of which are over 100 years old

Červený Kameň Fortress, the most beautiful castle in the Lesser Carpathians

Driny Cave, Slovakian natural monument, known for its unusual stalagmites

Climb to the Branč Fortress, located on a hill overlooking Podbranč

Excursion to Abeland
Travel back in time in the village of Abeland. We especially recommend a trip to this village for families, to see local crafts and farm life up close. You’ll find wooden huts, a forge, and potters offering handmade products. See sheepdog demonstrations, learn archery, or go horseback riding.

Baťov Kanál Boat Ride
Originally used for irrigation and transporting goods, today the canal is mainly a tourist attraction. Rent a boat and set off on an unforgettable journey through the beautiful countryside. If you prefer standing on solid ground, enjoy a cycling tour along the canal. Make sure to pause along the way to catch your breath, have a bite to eat, and make the most of your holiday.

Excursion to the Šaštín-Stráže Pilgrimage Site
You can reach Šaštín-Stráže in about fifteen minutes by car from Smrdáky, and there you will find one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. The Baroque church was inaugurated in 1764 with the participation of Empress Maria Theresa and Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor. The main altar bears a renowned statue of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Each year, thousands of believers make a pilgrimage to this chapel. You can also admire the beautiful basilica and enjoy the silence.

Excursion to Skalica
Skalica is just a small town, but its memorials, churches, and monasteries are sure to impress. Skalica is just 20 minutes from Smrdáky and is well worth a short visit. When you’re in Skalica, enjoy the local sweet Skalický trdelník and drink a glass of Blue Frankish wine. Both are delicious.

Excursion to Trnava
Trnava is the oldest free royal town in Slovakia. The city centre was designated a protected historical neighbourhood in 1987. Its well-preserved fortress walls date back to the 13th to 16th centuries. They are among the most important sights of their kind in Europe. Visit the town’s St John the Baptist Cathedral; its wooden altar dates back to 1640.

Trip to Piešt'any
In the middle of the Váh River, on a beautifully landscaped island with water lily ponds and peacocks, stands a complex of six ENSANA spa hotels. You will have the opportunity to stroll through the beautiful spa park and cross the Colonnade Bridge to the pedestrian zone and admire the beauty of Piešt'any. In the spa hotel PRO PATRIA, which is situated in the heart of the spa island, you will also be treated to coffee and a delicious cake. There is an organised trip every Sunday.
You can also visit some Czech castles during your stay in Smrdáky. They’re not very far at all, and their elegance and expansive parks are sure to impress. We recommend these four Czech castles:

Lednice Castle belonged to the nobles, who seized this jewel during the Thirty Years’ War

Valtice Castle lies in the heart of a wine region where you can taste the local wines

Milotice Castle is a baroque gem with a pheasant house and a garden
The resort village of Smrdáky is surrounded by history and interesting attractions.
