Peloidokinesiotherapy

Balneotherapy, Thermotherapy

What is peloidokinesiotherapy
The medical name of this procedure means a treatment by movement in peloids (i.e. mud or peat). It is carried out in a small tub filled with a warm healing thermal mud (in Piešťany) or peat (in Marienbad). The hands including the wrists are immersed in the warm liquid mud/peat, and then put through a number of exercises under the direction of a physiotherapist.

How peloidokinesiotherapy helps
The treatment is especially effective in improving the mobility and blood circulation of the hands, utilising at the same time the healing properties of mud/peat. The therapy results in a reduction of local swelling and stiffness in the joints of the wrists and hands, as well as a relief of muscle tension in these areas.

Prior to the peloidokinesiotherapy proper, there is an individual briefing session during which the physiotherapist provides information on the exercises that will later be performed in the healing mud/peat. During this briefing, the physiotherapist gives a demonstration and then conducts gentle joint mobility exercises. This ensures the maximum effect and benefits are obtained from the actual peloidokinesiotherapy treatment, which is conducted in the mud/peat itself.
